Sue Cooke, til 24Dec, Whanganui

Sue Cooke is hosting an exhibition 48 small Works: Prints, Paintings and Drawings
at 68a Guyton St, Whanganui until 24 December  (hours: 1-5pm, Mon - Fri)

This exhibition, selected from the Sue Cooke’s stock room,
shows a number of conceptual threads running through her practice over the past 20 years.
Strong contrasts, texture and depth of colour enhance ideas
of light, dark,  gloom, joy, the golden landscape, turbulence and intensity.
The works are hung in 5 thematic groups;
Wanganui Landscapes, Antarctica, Trees, Architecture and Nudes.

"The Architectural works were made at a time when the artist was primarily confined to the indoors
shortly after the birth of her daughter Rachel.
The architectural facades act as an inverted window through which the natural world is viewed.
The artists perspective is one of distance, unable to be involved in the outdoors
yet honouring the beauty of both the man-made and natural worlds."
