Joan Travaglia was an accomplished printmaker, painter and art educator.
For nearly two decades she ran the printmaking classes and workshops
at the Waikato Society of Arts in Hamilton, introducing many to the pleasures of printmaking
and carrying on the tradition of the annual Waiprint exhibition.
Her premature death last year dealt a great blow to the WSA
and was a loss to the New Zealand printmaking community.
As a memorial to Joan, CPCANZ are mounting a retrospective exhibition at ArtsPost.
It will feature work from the mid 1980s through to her last prints from December 2011
and will include several of her merit-award prints from the NZ Painting and Printmaking Award.
Joan Travaglia Retrospective exhibition will run from 18 January to 18 February
at ArtsPost, 120 Victoria Street, Hamilton.
Everyone is invited to the opening at 5.30pm on Thursday 17 January,
when Marty Vreede will say a few words about Joan and her work.
